Girl: Poetry club is in room 203. This is room 302.
Libera: I'm here for chess club.
Girl: Alright, if you're not going to cut out, take a seat. Lets play a game.
Libera: Oh - you can call me Libera, by the way.
Girl: Libera?
Click!
Libera: It comes from a song.
Girl: A song, huh? If you're so musically inclined, why didn't you join the music club instead?
Click!
Libera: I don't think that place is quite for me ...
Girl: I bet I could name more musical acts than you, then.
Click!
Libera: Well, it's not a competition.
Girl: Ha ha ha! How can you say that when we're in the middle of a game?
Click!
Libera: No, no ... I really do like music, but the music club is all girls who only babble on about Elvis or Buddy Holly.
Girl: Yeah, you're right about that. But why is that a big deal? Aren't we both girls, Libera?
Click!
Libera: I'd hardly consider myself a girl. I'm just not like them.
Girl: I kind of get what you mean. I don't really fit in with most girls either. They have little interest in more intellectual pursuits, like robotics or engineering. And now, even though you showed up, I'm still the only girl in a chess club full of boys.
Click!
Libera: But I wouldn't really say I'm a boy, either ...
Girl: How come?
Click!
Libera: I don't know ... It's just not me.
Girl: Then you don't belong with anyone, then?
Click!
Libera: I belong with my family. My sister, especially. We feel the same about that sort of thing.
Libera: My parents don't understand, but you know ... We're still family. Ha ... It's funny, really.
Click!
Libera: My father really wanted a son and my mom was so happy to have daughters. Everything my father would have taught to a son he taught to me and my sister instead.
Click!
Libera: My sister learned how to take over the auto shop and I learned how to shoot a gun. You know, things like that.
Click!
Libera: Now that we've grown up, my father still doesn't have a son and my mom doesn't know where her "daughters" went, ha ha ha!
Click!
Libera: They get confused about it, and sometimes, even, they get really upset. But that's just the way we are.
Click!
Libera: I know I'm not going to change, even if it means I won't be able to fit in with anyone else.
Click!
Girl: Check.
Libera: Oh! What? I was just shooting the breeze, huh?
Girl: You got sucked into what you were saying. You still played surprisingly well despite how distracted you were.
Libera: I ... Tend to do that ...
Girl: You have to be more careful. If your mind is off in its own little world all the time, you'll miss everything else around you.
Girl: Not that I mind, ha ha, because that way I end up winning much faster.
Libera: Ah, you're messing with me.
Girl: I can understand you somewhat, though. I can't relate to other girls, and I like it that way. Maybe next time you'll get closer to beating me.
Libera: Next time, huh? What's your name?
Roni: It's Veronica. My friends, if I had any, call me Roni.
Libera: Roni it is, then.
